Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie admits that while she feels closer to Brad Pitt since they married, she never felt a need to.

The couple - who have been together since 2005 - tied the knot in August and though the 39-year-old beauty insists they didn't "need" to take the next step in their relationship, they are very happy to have done so.

She said: "I think we just feel that much closer.

"It makes us happy to be married, if that makes any sense. I don't think we needed it but it feels ... he's my husband."

Angelina recently completed work directing 'Unbroken', which follows the story of Olympic runner Louis Zamperini, who was taken prisoner by the Japanese during World War II, and she is looking forward to her six children, Maddox, 13, Pax, 10, Zahara, nine, Shiloh, eight, and six-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne, seeing the movie for the first time.

Speaking at the Australian premiere, she told Daily Mail Australia: "They're all very emotional about the story and I look forward to them seeing it because I think it's very good for children, it's got good messages."

Meanwhile, the brunette beauty broke down in tears as she discussed the movie and Zamperini - who passed away in July aged 97 - on the red carpet.

Speaking to the Nine Network, the overwhelmed star paid tribute to the Olympian.

She said: "What made me know it was right is he had an emotional reaction to it, to seeing his mother again, to seeing his brother, to remembering the races.

"And as a man of faith he was preparing himself to die and see them again.

"It was this gentle, beautiful, quiet moment ... I felt very privileged to be reflecting on his life."
