The 'Pitch Perfect' actress took to her Twitter account on Tuesday (27.12.16) to pay tribute to the legendary star after news that she had passed away in hospital in Los Angeles following a "huge cardiac" arrest began to spread like wildfire.

She wrote: "No. No. F**k this sh*t. Carrie Fisher is a f*****g legend and this is b******t."

She then shared a picture of her posing with Carrie as she reflected on the time she met the 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' star and she threw a handful of glitter at her.

She accompanied the sweet shot with the caption: "Carrie Fisher wore glitter in her hair. When I said I liked it, she ran her fingers through it and lobbed a handful at me. #TheGreatest, (sic)" followed by a heartbroken emoji.

And the 31-year-old star didn't stop there as she managed to dig out a tweet Carrie had sent her last year in which she refers to herself as Anna's "grandma".

She wrote at the time: "Proud as any grandma might be that the glitter I gilded you with contributed to your uber, epic shine on your SNL debut. @AnnaKendrick47"

And stumbling across the message clearly hit a nerve as Anna said: "Dammit, I am so heartbroken. This meant THE WORLD to me. Thank you for everything that you did and everything that you were. #General (sic)"

Carrie tragically passed away on Tuesday (27.12.16) at the age of 60 at UCLA Medical Centre after she stopped breathing on board a flight from London to Los Angeles.
