The 47-year-old musician has admitted he can see strong similarities between the drug problems his ex-wife Whitney and his deceased daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown suffered.

He reflected: "The same thing that happened to my daughter, it happened to Whitney."

Bobby, who has also battled drug problems during his own life, lost his daughter in July last year, nearly six months after she was found unresponsive in a bathtub in her Roswell, Georgia, home.

Bobby said that as he reflects on his own personal experiences with drugs, he feels grateful that he's still alive today.

Speaking to ABC News' '20/20', Bobby explained: "My baby's gone. I thank God I'm still here. The hardest thing I had to do in my life was tell my daughter to let go."

Bobby had a turbulent marriage to Bobbi Kristina's mother Whitney, who died in 2012 aged 48 after she was found unresponsive in a bathtub at a Beverly Hills hotel.

The iconic singer was found by medical experts to have died of an accidental drowning, although drug use was said to be a contributing factor to her ill-health.

Bobby's remarks come shortly after more than 100 of Whitney's personal items were put up for sale.

Among the many items that are available to buy are her wedding dress, stage costumes and numerous awards, including Billboard, Emmys, MTV VMA and People's Choice.

Pat Houston, Whitney's manager, president of the Whitney Houston Estate and her sister-in-law, previously said: "We felt that it was time to give something of Whitney to the people who loved her and her music and, conversely, who Whitney loved back with all of her heart and soul."

The wedding dress worn by the singer when she married Bobby in 1992 is listed with an opening bid of $3,500.
