The 59-year-old singer has spent thousands renovating the grounds of his gothic mansion in Hampstead, north London, and is removing low quality trees and shrubs and replacing them with ornamental versions.

The 'Karma Chameleon' hitmaker has inserted pleached trees and introduced a mixture of perennial plants. The garden has also now been adorned with an evergreen backbone, according to the Daily Mail newspaper’s Sebastian Shakespeare column.

Boy George's planning agent said: "The proposals have been developed to provide a scheme sympathetic to this historic fabric and character of the property and to the broader conservation area."

The singer is also installing a hardwood deck and chain of natural stone stepping-stones across his lawn. The garden includes a stepped water feature with a reflection pool.

What's more, George has added a new trellis to the rear garden's wall to stop prying eyes from looking in.

Meanwhile, the Culture Club frontman – whose real name is George O'Dowd – recently confirmed that Harry Styles had been approached to play him in a film about his life.

George said: "I know that Harry is one of the people who has been approached or considered and I know that Harry is embarking on an acting career. I think producers did look at him. I don't know if it will actually happen.

"At the end of the day, acting is such a craft and I think it's very challenging to play someone like me because I think most people have the complete wrong idea of who I am and what I am. And a lot of the stuff about me is weird mythical rubbish."
