The retired soccer superstar says his 16-year-old son is always raiding his wardrobe and even took a pricey pair of Saint Laurent leather pants, without asking his permission, to wear as his own.

He said: "He steals something from my wardrobe every single day. I had a pair of Saint Laurent leather trousers that I had never worn, and Brooklyn found them and wore them and is still wearing them. Those trousers were my trousers and they're definitely not anymore!"

David - who also has Romeo, 12, Cruz, nine and three-year-old Harper with his wife Victoria - added he often tries to impress his son and was pleased to be accepted into the teen's "cool book" when he gifted him a pair of Yeezy trainers, designed by rapper Kanye West, for his recent birthday.

He told Glamour magazine at the launch of his latest fragrance Instinct Gold Edition: "My two younger boys still think I'm a cool dad, Brooklyn - not so much anymore. With Brooklyn I keep having to remind him that I'm one of the cooler dads.

"For his birthday I got him some of the Kanye shoes, so I was in his cool books for about five hours."

Brooklyn was so thrilled with the gift, he took to his Instagram account to thank the 'Stronger' hitmaker for the sought after shoes, which retail for up to $1,500.

Alongside an image of a pair of beige trainers - which appear to be from Kanye's Adidas Yeezy 750 Boost range - he wrote: "Thanks Kanye for the yeezys (sic)"

David also marked the occasion on his Facebook account by posting an image of himself and his son both wearing Manchester United kits at Old Trafford after his team clinched his fifth Premier League title in 2000.

He captioned the picture, which showed the then 13-month-old Brooklyn wearing his medal: "Happy Birthday to my big boy xx (sic)"
