Charlie Sheen has generously offered to give a waiter $1,000 after American footballer LeSean McCoy left the server a 20 cent tip.

Sheen actor took to his Twitter account to make the generous pledge to waiter Rob Knelly after he was given the measly sum by Philadelphia Eagles star LeSean McCoy while serving him at PYT restaurant in Philadelphia.

Charlie tweeted: "dear Tommy Up at PYT in Philly. Please tell Rob K I'm pledging 1000 dollars to him for the tip debacle just wanna help. c #NoJudgement (sic)"

The 49-year-old actor's offer comes after American footballer McCoy hand wrote the 20 cent tip on his receipt after splashing out $61.56 on a meal at the eatery which led to restaurant owner Tommy Up sharing a picture of the bill on the establishment's Facebook page.

In a message accompanying the image, he wrote: "The twenty cent tip that the Eagles' LeSean McCoy just left our server on his $60 check is going to come in really handy for that new official NFL McCoy jersey he had his heart set on.

"That is a .03% tip. New record! (sic)"

Server Rob - who is a Baltimore Ravens fan - claims McCoy and his friends were using rude language and making "derogatory comments" during their time in the restaurant.

Speaking to NJ.com, he said: "I kept my cool for as long as I could, where you just don't want them yelling and cursing you.

"I asked some questions, they weren't really responsive. They were cursing, making derogatory comments. I put their order in and forgot one of their appetisers, which I apologised for.

"They ordered things and, once they got it, said, 'We ain't eating this s**t. We don't want it.' "

He also told NBC Philadelphia: "They didn't know my name. They just said, 'You're my server right?' They were being rude so after I gave them their food I didn't go back to them until they were done. I just avoided their rudeness."
