The supermodel was escorted off an easyJet flight in London earlier this month after she reportedly became "disruptive" during the journey, but the Topshop heiress has rushed to her pal's defence insisting she simply gets "excitable" when she travels.

Chloe said: "I really think they handled it badly as an airline. I've travelled with Kate a few times and although she can be quite loud and excitable, it's always in a playful way."

The 23-year-old socialite - the daughter of Topshop boss Sir Philip Green - believes the incident was exaggerated because it was the 41-year-old catwalk superstar who was involved.

Chloe told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "Had it been any other passenger it would've been a non-story. The whole issue was blown out of proportion and people need to remember that when you're a celebrity you're also a target. People will always try to embellish it."

A fellow passenger on the flight previously revealed the model became enraged due to a shortage of sandwiches, and was using foul-mouthed language, including branding the pilot a "basic bitch".

Traveller Ian Thorne said: "She was sitting at the back with her friend and they were kicking off because the plane had run out of the sandwiches she wanted.

"The flight attendants were taking a break at the back and eating their food when Kate shouted, 'It's f**king all right for them to eat pasta when we're hungry'.

"She kept using bad language and one of the flight attendants seemed upset."
