Christina Ricci says people have taken her more "seriously" since she got engaged.

The 33-year-old actress agreed to marry camera technician James Heerdegen in late 2012 and ever since she got betrothed she's noticed a change in other people's perception of her.

When asked what she's enjoying most about being engaged at a 'Smurfs 2' screening in New York City on Sunday (28.07.13), she said: "Getting to say 'fiancé' instead of 'boyfriend'. People take you so much more seriously once you start throwing around that word."

Christina can't wait to walk down the aisle and say "I do" because she thinks being someone's wife will give her even more power.

She joked to People: "I can't wait for 'husband' because then I can really throw my weight around. I'll be like, 'My husband's going to come down here and talk to you!' That's a huge threat.

The star - who voices the mischievous character Vexy in the animated sequel - has been busy planning her big day.

Christina has already picked out a dress but she is remaining tight-lipped on who has created it, only teasing that it has been "designed by a friend" of hers.

Christina was joined at 'The Smurfs 2' screening by her co-star Hank Azaria - who plays Gargamel.
