The 68-year-old star has been wowed by Beyonce's new album, 'Cowboy Carter', and Carlene believes it's a great thing for country music.

Speaking to 'Entertainment Tonight', Carlene explained: "I loved that she came out with her name as Carter because she's married to Jay-Z, and I thought, she's from Texas, she wanted to make a country record, nobody should give her any poo poo about it, you know? But they did and I was like, 'OK, y'all can just shut the hell up because she is Beyonce and we are lucky to have her even want to be in the vicinity of us.'"

Carlene feels country music has always been about "what is real in life" and the veteran star observed that Beyonce's new record "is very much about her life".

Carlene added: "It may not fit the categories of what people think country is [but] let me tell you, I've been around a long time and country has changed constantly.

"It changes constantly, and it's gone from where she at to where I've been to where my mother's been to my grandmother [and] all the way back again to somebody else that's gonna follow Beyonce. It's always gonna be there, so that's what country is."

Meanwhile, Miley Cyrus recently expressed her admiration of Beyonce.

The 31-year-old pop star collaborated with Beyonce on 'II Most Wanted' - which features on 'Cowboy Carter' - and she recently took to Instagram to praise the music icon.

Alongside a photo of Beyonce, Miley wrote on the platform: "II Most Wanted is out now on the new @Beyonce album #CowboyCarter

"I’ve loved Beyoncé since long before I had the opportunity to meet and work with her.

"My admiration runs so much deeper now that I’ve created along side of her. Thank you Beyonce. You’re everything and more. Love you. To everyone who spent time making this song so special thank you from the bottom of my heart. Sincerely , Miley (sic)"
