Danielle Herrington missed the flight for her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue cover shoot.
The 24-year-old model recently became the third black woman after Beyonce and Tyra Banks to adorn the cover of the iconic publication, but Danielle has now revealed the dramatic circumstances behind her achievement.
She shared: "I missed my flight to the shoot. They don't have many flights going in [to] the Bahamas. So, I had to wait until the next morning to fly in.
"When I got off the plane, I had to go straight into hair and makeup and to shooting. Honestly, I was like, 'Okay, I have to make this up. I have to prove myself. I have to give it everything I have because [not] everybody get[s] a chance to shoot in Sports Illustrated, and I had the nerve to miss my flight. That's crazy.'
"I was kind of disappointed in myself, but I made it work - and I'm on the cover now."
Danielle also admitted she feels incredibly proud to follow in the footsteps of Beyonce and Tyra.
She told Elle.com: "It means the world to me. It means everything because those two specifically are my idols, those are who I looked up to when I was little.
"To be in the same sentence as them is honestly unbelievable. Their hard work and dedication always inspired me to keep my dream alive and keep going forward until I reached my goals, and I did, and they were my biggest inspiration."
