The 'Cool for the Summer' hitmaker's mother Dianna De La Garza was devastated when her daughter decided to end her relationship with the 'That '70s Show' actor but is "thankful" that the pair still remain friends and see each other from time to time.

She said: "He was just so gracious and caring, and he still is to this day. I believe he loves her, and she loves him. I think Demi came to a point where she wanted to make some decisions in her life, and when that happened, it just really broke us all. I mean we were just so upset. It was her life and I had to let her decide things for herself ... I'm thankful that even after everything, we still see him occasionally. We don't see him that often but when we do, it's just like nothing ever changed. You know, he's just that kind of person."

However, Dianna admits she didn't approve of the relationship at first because she didn't like the idea of sharing Demi with someone else.

Speaking on Millennial Hollywood about how she felt at the beginning of the relationship, Dianna added: "I want this time with my daughter, and now I've gotta share it with [Valderrama]. At one time I was like, 'You know, I like you, but I'm not sure I want you to be together,' you know? Of course you can't not like him ... he's so likable and just a lovely human being."

Demi and Wilmer dated for nearly six years before splitting in June 2016.
