Elle Fanning has revealed that her and her friend's spring break tradition is to break into the Pebble Beach Golf Club in California by climbing a cliff on the beach.

Fanning has confessed her and her friend like to break into the prestigious Pebble Beach Resorts' Golf Links club in California when they're on school holidays, and admits that although it's a challenge to get on to the course, they continue to do it every year.

She said: "Every spring break my best friend and I, we go to Carmel and we break into Pebble Beach - the golf course.

"It's kind of like a tradition. The first time we did it her brother was with us and her brother's friend and they were like, 'It's fine', because you're literally on the beach. All you have to do ... Well you have to have to climb a cliff, and then you're there."

The 'Maleficent' star went on to explain that the first time they made it up the cliff they came face-to-face with golfers who were too engrossed in their game to tell them off, but the second time they weren't so lucky.

Speaking on 'The Late Show with David Letterman', she said: "We got there and there were all these old guys playing and they saw us but they were focused on the game so we made it all the way to this tree, which is a long walk, and took some pictures.

"But then the second time we did it, her brother wasn't there so it was just me and my friend and we climbed up there and they saw us and told us to get down. But we'll always try."
