Gregg Wallace thinks there's nothing worse than badly-cooked meat or fish.

The 'MasterChef' judge admits people are often "disappointed" when he doesn't cite anything particularly unusual as the worst thing he's ever eaten, as he'd rather sample something unexpected than take a bite out of something that hasn't been cooked properly.

He said: "One of the questions I'm asked the most is - what's the worst thing you've eaten? And people get disappointed, because they're expecting an unusual concoction and that's never the worst thing. The worst thing is a piece of meat or fish that's been perfectly browned, but is still raw inside."

Meanwhile, his co-judge John Torode hates it when contestants use avocado in their dessert and is relieved the trend seems to be fading.

He said: "Thankfully last year saw the end of people making desserts with avocados. It was awful; you just can't make a cheesecake with avocado."

Judging the cooks on their dishes over a number of challenges means the pair have to eat a lot during filming, and John is in awe of Gregg's ability to keep chowing down after the cameras have stopped rolling.

He told the Daily Express newspaper: "Your body is like a geological dig - just layers of food. Gregg goes out for dinner afterwards - I don't know how he does that!"

Despite 'MasterChef' being a cooking competition, Gregg doesn't think the food is the main reason why so many people tune in.

He explained: "It's real, it's honest and people can see that. It's not contrived - you don't have to invent drama, there's enough there.

"It's a subject that everybody has an interest in, but in a way food might even be secondary.

"What you are doing is watching people working really hard to achieve something and I think that's addictive."
