The 35-year-old star is keen for there to be women from all different races appear on screens so young women can feel comfortable in their own skin.

Speaking during a visit to AOL's Build series, she said: "We're taking steps in making sure that young girls see every type of woman. And everyone keeps quoting me on that. And for me, I can say it because that's me, I'm a chocolate girl.

"I feel like we do need to see more of that, because little girls need to see me without this lovely curl on. I have super, kinky, curly hair, but I just feel like girls have to see older women, and women that have gone before them ... being comfortable in their skin and doing great things."

Meanwhile, the former Destiny's Child star previously offered advice to new mothers, urging them not to "beat themselves up" if they don't ditch their pregnancy weight straight away.

She shared: "It takes about a year to get the weight off. Don't beat yourself up if it takes even longer ... Write on your mirror in lipstick - 'I had a baby. I'm a superhero.' Being a mum makes me feel whole."
