The former Oasis frontman adopted the Dachshund with his former spouse Nicole and their son Gene, now 19, but revealed on Tuesday (02.02.21) that the dog has sadly passed away.

Alongside a picture of himself holding the small dog, Liam wrote: “Just lost this little girl tnight absolutely gutted RIP RUBY aka SPARKLE x (sic)”

Liam and Nicole previously battled over who would get to keep custody of Ruby and their other Dachshund, Brigitte Bardot, when they ended their six-year marriage in 2014.

The ‘Wall of Glass’ hitmaker was determined to keep joint custody of the pooches, as he wasn’t prepared to part ways with his furry friends.

A source said at the time of the couple’s split: “He wants to share custody of the dogs with Nicole - no way is he prepared to lose them. It's breaking his heart not being with them. He's even been visiting pet shops in Primrose Hill to get his doggy fix.”

Meanwhile, Liam – who also has daughter Molly, 22, with Lisa Moorish, son Lennon, 21, with his ex-wife Patsy Kensit, and daughter Gemma, eight, with Liza Ghorbani – previously revealed it was his son Gene who brought Ruby home, but at the time he had chosen to name the puppy Sparkle.

The 48-year-old singer was then forced to change the dog’s name after feeling ridiculous when he called out for “Sparkle” whilst taking the dog for a walk.

He said: “I’ve got two sausage dogs – Ruby and Brigitte. It got worse, right. I lived on Hampstead Heath and Gene came home with it and he called it Sparkle, and I’d have to take it out on the Heath. It used to get lost in the bushes, and so I’m stood in the bushes going ‘Sparkle!’. I had to change the name. Ruby was better.”
