The 'Air Balloon' hitmaker has to approve any fans who wish to start following her on the photo-sharing network after she made the change, which comes after speculation the singer and her husband Sam Cooper couple may have split.

Supporters who were not already following Lily are greeted with a message preventing them from accessing her Instagram account without her approval when they visit her page.

The message reads: "This Account is Private. Request to follow lilyallen to see their photos and videos."

Despite deleting all of her pictures, Lily still has 726,000 followers on the site and is following 1,089 accounts.

But the posts section of her Instagram reads: "0".

But Lily is still on social networking site Twitter, on which she last posted on Monday (18.01.16), and can boast 5.62 million followers.

Last month, Lily's husband of four-and-a-half years was rumoured to have moved out of their family home after he was seen without his wedding ring.

This prompted speculation that the pair could have gone their separate ways, and Lily was also said to have set up an Instagram account that she wouldn't let him follow.

A source previously said: "Lily has been keeping things from Sam - she even set up her own private Instagram where she puts pics of her crazy partying up and won't let Sam follow her."

Lily and Sam started dating in 2009 before tying the knot in June 2011. They have two daughters, Ethel, four, and three-year-old Marnie.
