The 'American Idol' judge - who has sons Thomas, 13, and Tatum, 10, with spouse Caroline - and his spouse of 14 years always talk through their issues and if they ever have a row, they get over their differences by getting intimate.

Asked during an interview with theSkimm what the secret to his successful marriage is, he laughed: "Communicate and make-up sex."

The 44-year-old singer also revealed that, because of the coronavirus pandemic, he hasn't yet met his fellow 'American Idol' star Katy Perry's daughter Daisy, seven months, yet.

He said: “I have FaceTimed on set with Katy’s precious daughter Dasiy Dove. But I haven’t been able to do the baby fat, pinching the cheeks stuff yet.”

The 'Waves' singer previously admitted he has to "work so hard" at marriage.

He said: "Sitting and letting something small turn into a big event is not how you make it. [Once you] have a family, you're doing this with your family – it's a lot. But you've walked down the aisle and you've said in front of God, 'This is who I'm going to be with forever.' You have to work so hard at it. "

Luke's comments echo his previous remarks that communication is "so critical" in a relationship.

He has said: "It's all about communication and giving each other time to go do the things that we're passionate about.

"But the communication is so critical. When you get your wires crossed... I know it sounds cliché, but never go to bed mad. You really have to abide by that stuff."

And the star joked drinking had helped their relationship amid the global health crisis.

He said: "Obviously quarantine has certainly put its share of new things to navigate. Caroline and I are used to spending quite a bit of time apart, and now I'm just here every day.

"But the main thing with us is properly inserting alcohol in parts of the relationship — it does a really, really good job for us. I'm playing."
