Mariah Carey feels like it has taken her entire life to find where she fits in as a biracial woman. The 50-year-old singer has struggled to come to terms with her identity as she felt like she wasn’t black enough but was bullied by white girls at school who called her the N-word.She told The Guardian newspaper: “I can’t help that I’m ambiguous-looking,” she says, “and most people would assume that it’s been to my benefit, and maybe it has in some ways. “But it’s also been a lifelong quest to feel like I belong to any specific group. It shouldn’t have to be such a freaking thing.”What’s more, she struggled with her identity in her own home as her mother didn’t know how to care for her curly hair and envied the white women in shampoo adverts. She added: “I am still obsessed with blowing hair, as evidenced by the wind machines employed in every photoshoot of me ever.”Meanwhile, Mariah plans to stop giving interviews now she’s published her memoir. The ‘Fantasy’ hitmaker insisted she can’t see “the point” in speaking with media outlets to promote her work any more as she’s given the full story of her life in her autobiography, ‘The Meaning of Mariah Carey’, so people can simply refer to the book if they have any questions about her.She told The Guardian newspaper: “No offence to doing interviews, but what would be the point? I can’t articulate it better than I already have [in the book]. From now on, I’m like, ‘Please refer to page 29,’ you know what I mean?”And asked about a passage in the book in which she documents her 2001 breakdown, she said: “Those are my words, so please refer to page 29.”
