Michael Douglas and his ex-wife have appealed to some of their closest celebrity friends to help them visit their imprisoned son.
The 'Behind the Candelabra' star and former spouse Diandra Luker are desperate to be reunited with Cameron Douglas, who is being held in solitary confinement at the Federal Corrections Institute in Cumberland, Maryland, for drug offences, and have emailed high-profile friends including Calvin Klein, Yoko Ono, Bianca Jagger and Bo Derek, asking them to get behind a petition campaigning for them to see their troubled offspring.
According to PageSix.com, Diandra wrote in an email: "We have not seen our son for over a year, and the government is telling us we cannot see our son for TWO YEARS. Cameron has also been in solitary confinement for TWO YEARS! (For a non violent crime of possession). As parents we are fighting back.
"Our son Cameron has been sentenced to 9 yrs., the longest sentence ever handed out by the Federal Government for a non violent crime of possession. PLEASE help us by forwarding this petition after signature, to anyone you know who would like to help the cause. (sic)"
The email - which is also addressed to Bob Pittman, Carolina Herrera, Deborah Norville, Ann Dexter-Jones, Frederic Fekkai, Donna Karan Charlie Rose and Diane von Furstenberg - concludes with a link to the Change.org petition.
Activist Tony Papa of the Drug Policy Alliance, who is acting as an advocate for Cameron, started the petition on Change.org as he believes Michael, 68, is being unfairly punished for his son's addiction.
Michael took aim at the American prison system during his acceptance speech at the Emmy Awards last month.
He said: "If you happen to have a slip - this is for a prisoner who is non-violent - as about a half a million of our drug addicted prisoners are, they punish you.
"So for my son's case, he's spent almost two years in solitary confinement and right now I'm being told that I cannot see him for two years."
Cameron was handed a five-year sentence for heroin possession and conspiracy to distribute narcotics in 2009, which was extended by four and a half years in 2011 after he committed drug infractions behind bars, meaning he is due to be released in 2018.
