The Texan country singer's MuttNation Foundation are doing what they can to rescue domesticated animals left alone in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, and helping to find them food and shelter until attempts can be made to reunite them with their owners, and have already assisted over 230 creatures.

Miranda shared a picture on Instagram of a dog and some puppies on the floor of her tour bus, which had been driven to Houston.

She captioned the image: "My roommates tonight sure are cute! Mama and newborns that were born this morning. Im calling her Ashley after @ashleymonroemusic who just had a baby herself.

"@muttnationfoundation rescued 72 dogs today who are being transported to dry safe shelters across the country. Thanks for yalls support. Stay tuned tomorrow and continue to pray. #muttnationfoundation #hurricaneharvey #texasstrong #elvirathebus #tourbusrescue (sic)"

Another picture showed her cuddling up to a dog and she wrote: "Too tired for a full update from today but I will give yall a recap tomorrow morning about @muttnationfoundation and our efforts for #hurricaneharvey animal rescues. #TexasStrong #hardaysnight #muttnationteamwork #dontforgetloveashelterpet

The 33-year-old star also thanked the volunteers who had turned out to help in another post.

Posting a picture of two volunteers holding puppies, she wrote: "Thanks to some amazing transportation volunteers...We sent over 70 pups to our shelter in Oklahoma today. Our rigs are now rolling into Houston for another load. Continue to send prayers and donations."

MuttNation also shared pictures of their relief effort and admitted they were "overwhelmed" by the support they'd received.

They wrote: "MuttNation fans, thank you for your patience! What a day! Our team braved the weather to save these 72 precious pups in Harris County....including those born just yesterday!! We are so thankful to be helping our furry friends affected by #HurricaneHarvey! Please know that we are reading your comments and we reached out to several rescues this morning. We want to say a huge thank you to everyone that has donated!!! We are OVERWHELMED by your generosity!!! Our fans are simply the best! Thank you for your amazing support!! Please, please, please continue to #PrayForTexas!! (sic)"

The organisation have been trying to relocate animals already in shelters in the Houston areas to those with space available in other states so local facilities have space for the lost pets.

They wrote on another post: "#HurricaneHarvey Update: 62 pets just picked up from Houston Humane Society!! (Just a reminder that we are clearing out animals that were already in the shelters before the storm hit so that there is room for all of the displaced and lost animals from Hurricane Harvey!)(sic)".

Since the storm - which began as a Category 4 hurricane - hit the US region last week at least 22 people have lost their lives and thousands of people have been driven out of their homes by flooding and need assistance and support.

Stars including Miley Cyrus, Leonardo DiCaprio and Beyonce have already offered financial support.
