The One Direction star, 22, who hasn't been to his native Ireland since last year, is keen to explore the world and relax on the west coast of his home country in a rented cottage during the band's extended hiatus next year.

Asked what he's most looking forward to about his break from the limelight, he said on the radio show 2FM: "It'll be the simple things like going home a bit more, seeing everyone I hadn't seen in a while. I'd like to do a bit of travelling, the places I haven't seen properly. I'd love to rent a cottage somewhere in Ireland, or get a caravan."

The 'Little Things' hitmaker is also hoping he'll be able to focus his attention on his fitness and bulk up a little.

He added: "By the end of next year... I'd like to be a low single figure in golf and in better shape, working out."

And, although he's taking time out from the band, he's planning to start penning tracks for One Direction's new album when himself, Liam Payne, 22, Harry Styles, 21, and Louis Tomlinson, 22, join forces once again.

He explained: "I'll probably spend most of the year writing for the next album too. We've always been bad at the planning things, we don't know how long this break will be for. It could be that in six months, we'll just say 'We ready to go again?' "

He added: "Five albums in five years... I'd like to think I deserve a holiday."
