The All Saints singer split from the Oasis rocker - with who she has 14-year-old son Gene - in August 2013 after it emerged he had had a daughter, Gemma, with US journalist Liza Ghorbani but she only discovered he'd been unfaithful when he warned her the news was about to be made public.

In a ruling over their divorce settlement, Judge Martin O'Dwyer - who decided the former couple should split their £11 million fortune equally - said: "It was only when publicity was about to occur in April 2013 when Mr. Gallagher told his wife.

"The circumstances were extremely unfortunate. The wife was away on holiday and she was informed by telephone by the husband."

Nicole was left "greatly distressed" by the news and subsequent breakdown of her five-year marriage.

The judge continued: "Ms. Appleton was greatly distressed not only because of the earlier incident but also because of the breakdown of her relationship, which was based upon prolonged deceit."

The judge also revealed the divorce has cost the former couple £800,000.

He said: "The level of costs in this case, totalling over £800,000, are manifestly excessive for the determination of the dispute, which involves capital sums not much greater at the end of the day than £10 million."

He also said that Liam and Nicole, who started living together 15 years ago, had "lived a very good lifestyle".

Details of the ruling came after a hearing at London's Central Family Court today (18.12.15), which involved the judge deciding just how much of the hearing held in October could be made public.

Liam and Nicole had both been photographed arriving separately at the court earlier this year to listen to the hearing, but were not present for Friday's ruling.
