The 50-year-old actress - who stars as lawyer and mother Celeste Wright in the hit HBO series - would love the country singer to make a cameo in the show, but he is not so keen.

Keith was asked by 'Entertainment Tonight' if her would like to appear in the show, but he said: "No, I'll go on the set. I wouldn't go on camera. I love being on set where Nic is. I'd rather be in the studio."

Nicole asked: "He might do a cameo, wouldn't you? ... Never?"

But Keith, 50, replied: "No."

The singer has no previous acting experience other than music videos.

The couple were speaking at the American Country Music (AMC) Awards, where Nicole confessed her excitement at working Meryl Streep in the new series of 'Big Little Lies'.

Nicole said: "We've already been shooting. It's so good. She's just amazing, and to watch her do her craft, it really is artistic craft when you watch her.

"We're all - Laura Dern, Shailene [Woodley], Zoe [Kravitz], Reese [Witherspoon] - we just go, 'Gasp, can you believe it?'"

She added of Meryl: "She's got a fantastic character. It's also grounded and it's based in something very, very real, and we hope we bring you the [best] second season and it delivers. We're working hard."

The 68-year-old triple-Oscar-winning actress plays Mary Louise Wright in the show, mother of Perry Wright (Alexander Skarsgard), Celeste's deceased husband.

Keith admitted he has been hanging around set and had a sneak peek of Meryl's performance.

He said: "I love that she's joined this crazy cast and this incredible 'Big Little Lies'. I've seen little bits and pieces of it already and it's amazing. Amazing."
