One Direction took home almost £6 million each last year.

Figures filed on behalf of the group comprising of Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson show they turned over £49.1 million in 12 months, with each member drawing a salary of £5.6 million.

However, it's thought that these figures don't take into account their American earnings, where the group recently finished up their hugely successful Where We Are Tour.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror a source explained: "Their earning power has rocketed over the past 12 months.

"Who knows what the next year will bring? It's not bad considering they only finished in third place when they were on 'The X Factor'."

Since 2012 their earnings have more than doubled, and in the past two years the group have sold more than 45 million records as well as launching three international tours.

Earlier this week they topped heat magazine's list of Britain's richest stars under 30, beating Daniel Radcliffe and Robert Pattinson to the number one spot with estimated global earnings of over £77 million.
