Oscar Pistorius has shared a series of inspirational messages on Twitter as he awaits the verdict of his murder trial.

The South African Paralympic sprinter, who is accused of gunning down his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp inside his home last February, broke his months-long silence on the social media site yesterday by posting motivational quotes that appear to suggest he is doing some soul-searching.

Oscar, 27, first shared a collage of moving pictures of him with disadvantaged children, including some youngsters who, like him, are double-amputees. In one of the snaps, the athlete, wearing his famous 'blade-runner' prosthetic legs, is seen encouraging a young girl to run in her own prosthetics.

The montage of pictures is accompanied by the text: "You have the ability to make a difference in someones life. Sometimes it's the simple things you say or do that can make someone feel better or inspire them."

Oscar later posted a picture of a passage from Holocaust survivor Viktor E. Frankl's book, 'Man's Search for Meaning', which describes his experiences as a prisoner at Auschwitz during World War II.

The lengthy quote describes how "a man who has nothing left" can still feel "bliss".

The passage continued: "In a position of utter desolation, when man cannot express himself in positive action, when his only achievement may consist in enduring his sufferings in the right way -- an honourable way -- in such a position man can, through loving contemplation of the image he carries of his beloved, achieve fulfilment."

The runner's final tweet, meanwhile, is a picture of a lake with text emblazoned across it pleading for "healing".

It reads: "Lord, today I ask that you bathe those who live in pain in the river of your healing. Amen."

Oscar hasn't tweeted since the anniversary of Reeva's death on February 14 and is currently awaiting the outcome of his five-month trial, which is adjourned while the prosecutors prepare their final arguments.

The court case is due to resume on August 8.
