Oscar Pistorius has been accused of telling "snowball of lies"

.

Oscar Pistorius has been accused of repeatedly lying to the court over the killing of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp last February.

The South African Paralympic sprinter was branded a "deceitful witness" by the main prosecutor of his trial Gerrie Nel, who claims the athlete deliberately shot down his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, 29, inside his home last February following a blazing row.

Oscar, 27, claimed he had fired the gun involuntarily and out of fear, but Mr. Nel argued that his account of events were "devoid of any truth" and he'd told so many lies that he was forced to tell even more.

At the trial in Pretoria, Mr. Nel claimed Oscar's lawyers had given two lines of defence that can "never be reconciled" and the court should have "no difficulty in rejecting" one of the defences.

The runner has denied murdering Reeva, but Mr. Nel - who is known as the "Pitbull" prosecutor - insists even if the Paralympian's version of events were true, he "cannot escape" a conviction for murdering with intent.

If found guilty of murder, Pistorius could face life in jail, or 15 years in prison if the court finds him guilty of the lesser charge of culpable homicide.
