The 39-year-old singer - who is expecting her second child with partner Leyman Lahcine - admitted the artist cried when he heard one of her new songs, in which she admitted their relationship can be "unbearable" at times, but she felt it was important to talk about the "middle bit" in long-term romances that isn't always great.

She said: "He cried at the bit where I end up saying 'despite it all… I need you and you make me whole'. "

Discussing why she was so candid, she added to Metro newspaper's Guilty Pleasures column: "We grow up watching romcoms and fairy tales and we hear lots about falling in love and out of love, but no one ever talks about the middle bit.

"It’s hard work to keep it all going. I call that part 'enduring love.' "

The 'Only Love Can Hurt Like This' hitmaker - who also has a four-year-old daughter with her partner - insisted her feels had nothing to do with pregnancy hormones as she is always "emotional".

She said: "Hormones just magnify the feelings you already have,’ she said. ‘I am an emotional person. I have to express myself; it doesn’t end up well for me if I bottle it up."

Paloma - who was two years old when her own parents split up - wants to care for her new baby differently to her first because she's more willing to ask for help.

She said: "I am going to be less of a martyr with my second child. I think coming from a single-parent home, when I had my daughter I felt like I needed to do it all, but I will be asking for help this time.

"I’m more confident that I don’t have to be that do-it-all person."
