The 70-year-old singer has previously admitted he leaves all the cooking to wife Penny Lancaster, but he is happy to help pout with other domestic tasks as his spouse is so "messy" and he likes a tidy home.

He said:"I'm pretty good around the house I like a tidy house, Penny is really untidy. I do wash dishes, and I go 'I bet Elton or Bruce Springsteen don't do this'.

"We have got staff but I do like to go and do it."

The 'Maggie May' hitmaker insists he and Penny - the mother of his youngest children, sons Alistair, nine, and Aiden, four - rarely argue, but when they do, his 44-year-old wife always backs down first as he is too "stubborn" to apologise.

Speaking on UK TV show 'Loose Women' - on which Penny is a panellist - he said: "We don't really row and if we do it'll last 15 minutes. Penny is always the one, because I'm stubborn, she'll break the ice."

And Penny admitted they enjoy making up afterwards.

She said: "We have fun making up."

Penny has taken the portrait photograph for the cover of Rod's new album 'Another Country' and says her presence brought out the best in him.

She said: "It's the worst part of the job for Rod, having his photo taken, so when the wife is there, I get a bit of a glint."
