The Northern Irish-born golf champion, 35, who first met New Yorker Erica, 36, in 2012 at the Ryder Cup – and with whom he has three-year-old daughter Poppy Kennedy – filed for divorce from her in papers lodged on Monday (13.05.24), citing their marriage was “irretrievably broken”.

After the full documents were revealed by outlets including TMZ, which broke the news, it has now been revealed the petition for divorce states the pair had a prenup.

However, the details of the arrangement between Rory – estimated to be worth $216 million – have not been disclosed.

The papers have also revealed Rory is using attorney Thomas Sasser – the lawyer who represented golf icon Tiger Woods, 48, when his wife divorced him in 2010 in the wake of his cheating scandal.

Rory’s filing also calls for shared custody and a parenting plan to be established for his and Erica’s girl Poppy.

The golf pro’s manager Sean O’Flaherty said in a statement about the divorce news, which was revealed on Tuesday (14.05.24): “Rory McIlroy’s communications team confirmed today that a divorce has been filed.

“They stressed Rory’s desire to ensure this difficult time is as respectful and amicable as possible.”

Sean added there would be no further comment.

Rory and Erica are believed to have lived in a 12,800-square-foot, $9.5million mansion in the golfing capital of Jupiter, Florida, with Rory’s golf career earnings coming to around $87 million.

Rory has raked in millions being sponsored by the likes of Titleist, FootJoy, Jumeirah, Bose, Oakley and EA Sports.

His other big-name brand backers include TaylorMade, Nike, NBC Sports/Golf Pass, Omega and Optum.

Rory also announced a new sponsorship deal in 2022 that saw him become a brand ambassador for financial management company Workday.

His TaylorMade deal, which he signed in 2017, was said to be worth $10 million per year for 10 years.

He also has a Nike contract that was extended in 2017 for 10 years – also said to be worth $10 million per year.

In total, he is estimated to earn around $35 million a year from his sponsorships alone.
