The 56-year-old actress revealed that she has never received an invite to the Academy Awards since she was up for the Best Supporting Actress gong for the drama movie 'Fearless'.

Rosie said: "Not even to sit in the audience, not to present, nothing - and I'm a member.

"I love the Academy Awards. I cheer on my peers, but it hurts. It's like when your home team doesn't ask you to come back into the stadium after you got up to bat and hit the home run."

The star, who is of Puerto Rican descent, feels that her continued snubs from the Oscar shows the challenges many Latino performers face if they are to succeed in Hollywood.

Rosie told Variety: "The biggest struggle has been navigating through other people's shortcomings. Other people's bigotry, racism - and specifically the ones that don't understand that they are bigots or racists."

With the film industry facing a defining moment in terms of representation on screen, Perez feels that not enough progress is being made to benefit Latino stars.

The 'Do The Right Thing' star said: "Yes, change is happening, but it's too damn slow."

Rosie is currently starring in the TV series 'The Flight Attendant' as Megan Briscoe and the show's lead actress Kaley Cuoco was desperate to cast her as soon as the project went into development.

The former 'Big Bang Theory' star, who plays Cassie Bowden in the series, said: “I was begging her. I'm like, ‘Please, you are the vision we've had for this role. You are the one we wanted from day one.’

"I said, ‘You're all I see in this. Please!’ ”
