The 50-year-old star has decided to walk away from the day-time talk show and concentrate more of her efforts on her acting career, which has previously seen her appear in movies such as Spike Lee's 'Do the Right Thing' and the Ron Shelton-directed 'White Men Can't Jump'.

More recently, Rosie has been starring in Larry David's Broadway play 'Fish in the Dark' and Bill Wolff - the executive producer of 'The View' - has lauded the actress for balancing both jobs and promised to give her a "proper send off" in a few weeks' time, when the current season of the show wraps.

News of Rosie's decision to quit comes shortly after Raven-Symoné officially joined 'The View', saying she was "so happy" to have landed a permanent spot on the American talk show after guest co-hosting the ABC series since March.

She added: "I remember coming on 'The View' when I was 15 years old for the first 'Cheetah Girls'. I'm very happy to be sitting with these smart, talented mentors."

The show's current panel also includes Whoopi Goldberg and American author Nicolle Wallace.
