Russell Brand thinks monogamy is a beautiful thing.

The 38-year-old former sex addict, who split from Katy Perry in 2011 after 14 months of marriage, admits he thinks the idea of staying committed to one person is "hard-core" but thinks it is the only way for a marriage to work.

The comedian told the 'HuffPost Live' show on Tuesday (11.06.13): "I don't think monogamy is an impediment to anything if it's a philosophical choice that you make. I do query monogamy. It's a very severe state.

"It's a hard-core thing, monogamy. It's a hard-core principle. But beautiful, and to be recommended. And if you make a commitment to it, you've got to do it. When I was married, monogamy straight down the middle. You can't mess around with that stuff."

Earlier this month, Russell admitted he "loved" being married to the 'Firework' singer, 28, and insisted he never cheated on her.

He said: "I tried it and I loved it. I really think she's a lovely beautiful person. It's just hard isn't it? She's got a lot of options, I've got a lot of options, so you've got to really, really want it.

"When I'm in a relationship I'm diligently monogamous and stick to the principles agreed on within that relationship. You've got to, I think."
