The 23-year-old singer got up close and personal with his likeness and described the moment as "possibly the most surrealist experience of my life".

Sam documented the entire visit on Instagram, including pictures showing him kissing the wax work, licking its face - which he captioned "Let me lick ya down (sic)" - and even a close up of the model's nose with the caption, "I have ALWAYS wanted to look up my own nose, now it's possible haha (sic)".

Sam also shared a picture of him taking a selfie with his doppelganger and wrote: "Sorry for so many pics this is just so sick!!!! (sic)"

The 'Stay With Me' hitmaker performed in Golden Gate Park at the Outside Lands music festival on Sunday (09.08.15) and the next day made time to attend the grand unveiling of his statue.

Chris Connors, General Manager of Madame Tussauds, said before the visit: "Madame Tussauds is honoured to celebrate Sam Smith's musical accomplishments here in San Francisco and to welcome him into our effervescent Music Room. We can't wait to offer his fans a chance to get up close to one of the best-loved singers of his generation."

Sam had to sit for multiple hours so his replica could be made and underwent a complete 3D scan to ensure the proportions of his model are correct.

He also had to provide moulds of his hands, have his exact shoe size measured and sit patiently as the team matched his eye and hair colour.

The 'Omen' singer's statue joins a galaxy of star models, including Adele and Sir Elton John, that are also on display in the Music Room.
