The 37-year-old singer is paying for the care and upkeep of an orphaned Shetland pony that was rescued by Shires Holt, the primary Cornish Sanctuary for rescued Bodmin Moor Ponies.

Will has named the foal Sheila and he felt compelled to help the animal after learning of her plight.

Taking to his Twitter account, he shared: "In other news I'm adopting horses and a Shetland pony foal I am naming Sheila! A poor orphan who was found next to her dead mum ... rescued by these amazing people shiresholt.com who desperately need support (sic)"

Will is a committed animal lover and has previously supported the Soi Dog foundation, an organisation that aims to stop Thailand's illegal dog meat trade.

The aim of Shires Holt is to protect and care for inured horses and ponies across Cornwall and Devon in South West England and they are appealing for funds for hay, feed, and veterinary supplies and for donations to raise enough money for a rescue vehicle and more veterinary equipment.

A mission statement on the organisation's website reads: "Shires Holt, the primary Cornish Sanctuary for rescued Bodmin Moor Ponies. But more than this we provide a home for life to horses and ponies with a need in Cornwall and Devon ... Along side the Bodmin Moor Commoners council we wish to work on the long term solution to re-establish the viability of our moorland pony herds thereby enhancing not only our ponies' lives but invigorating the vibrancy of our glorious moors centred around Roughtor and Brown Willy."
