The former One Direction star's older sister Doniya has lifted the lid on what their childhood was like and admits both of them were lavished with attention and gifts by their parents Yaser and Tricia and their grandparents.

The beauty blogger said: "He was quite spoilt growing up, but I'd say I was actually more spoilt than Zayn because I was the first grandchild."

Doniya also revealed Zayn, 22, is a "protective brother" and is always looking out for her.

She added: "Because me and Zayn are very close in age, we've grown up together. Actually he bosses me around, he acts like a big protective brother which is quite nice at times."

Doniya also revealed she gets on great with Zayn's fiancée, Little Mix's Perrie Edwards, describing her as a "cool" girl.

When asked how she felt about having the 'Wings' singer as a sister-in-law, Doniya told the BBC Asian Network: "It's pretty cool. Perrie's a really nice girl, she's really friendly, very easy to get on with, down-to-earth, so I'd say just how it is with my sisters."

She said she is "very happy" to have Perrie join the Malik family.

Despite a rumour the couple will be tying the knot Disneyland in June, there is no official date planned for their big day.
