ST JOHN AT HACKNEY CHURCH

Childhope is a charity that prevents child abuse in Africa, Asia and South America. Tickets are now on sale at £10 on the website.

Sound check is an evening of live music where the performers are suited to the venue. The acts are able to play in St John’s Church where the acoustics are second to none. The performers have the advantage of playing against an all-female choir, string section and church organ.

STITCHTHAT, a company how has worked with Rudimental, Take That, Labrinth and more, will be responsible for filming one track from each artist. Sound: check will be the only place to find these exclusive tracks on its website for three months before the artists gain the rights themselves.

Eska is the first performer, renowned for her vocals, she will be performing with The Cinematic Orchestra, Nitin Sawhney and Zero 7. Eska is about to release her new folk sound which is synonymous with Joan Armatrading and Joni Mitchell. Hejra is an alternative band that will also be gracing the stage and was surmised as being “understated amalgam of heady Post Rock and instinctive, otherworldly Pop” by Mercury Proze Recommendations

Mara Carlyle follows with a combination of choral music, jazz, bluegrass, electronica and R&B. She has a host of followers such as Bjork, Guy Garvey and David Bryne and she has played her music for the rapper MF DOOM and performed for the British Royal Family.

To finish the evening, a collaboration of fifteen ladies called One Taste Choir. Started by Mae McKenna (mother of singer Jamie Woon), the choir has appeared at Union Chapel, Secret Garden Party and alongside Aloe Blacc. Finally, Stac will be performing a song from her latest album due to be released at the end of the year. The night will be hosted by singer-songwriter and One Taste Choir member Holly Walker.

Sound: check is a concept created by producer Marie-Claire Denyer and singer-songwriter Stac Dowdeswell.
