DOC MARTIN: COMPLETE SERIES ONE TO THREE

Dr Ellingham’s dream of becoming a top flight surgeon is irrevocably marred as he develops a phobia of blood. All is not lost though as a post for a local GP arises in the community of Portwenn, in picturesque North Cornwall. Frustrated, the Doc takes up the role.

Pedestrian-paced living initially grates on the Doc, but then it all changes. Settling in his new life, romance looms as he meets primary school teacher Louisa Glasson played by Caroline Catz (Murder in Suburbia, The Vice). Can Louisa break the hardened mettle of the Doc? After several failed attempts to woo pretty Louisa, a chink in the Doc’s armour has been made. Will the future mark wedding bells for the couple? Or can a past love threaten the Doc’s status?

Martin is joined by a prestigious cast in this beloved series, with Stephanie Cole (Housewife, Waiting For God, A Bit of a Do) as his Aunt Joan, who provides much emotional support for her nephew as the villagers serve up some discontent for the Doc.

Acting heavy-weight Ian McNeice (Rome, Oliver Twist, White Noise), and Joe Absolom (Vincent, New Tricks, EastEnders) star as father and son, Bert and Al Large. Katherine Parkinson (The IT Crowd, Ahead of the Class) plays Pauline Lamb, the feisty receptionist at the doctor’s surgery. John Marquez (The Trial of Tony Blair, Ronnie Ancona and Co, Suburban Shootout) makes his debut in series 3 as Portwenn’s new police constable, Joe Penhale. Guest stars including Denise Black, Louise Delamere, Lucy Robinson, Jeff Rawle, Thelma Barlow and Irene Sutcliffe.

DOC MARTIN: ON THE EDGE

This feature-length special is making its debut on DVD on 29 September.

With three fantastic series under the producer’s belt, there came a one-off special, ON THE EDGE. Starring Kenneth Cranham (Afterlife, New Tricks, The Line of Beauty) as Louisa’s dad, Terry, Richard Johnson (Scoop, Rebus, Whatever Love Means) as the crotchety colonel Gilbert Spencer, and Chris O’Dowd (The IT Crowd, The Clinic, Red Cap) as Jonathan Crozier, a dangerously dodgy newcomer to the village. In this special the peace of Portwenn is shattered by an invasion of tourists, eager for a sighting of a rare bird, which was discovered nesting on Aunt Joan’s land.

Aunt Joan wants to keep the bird a secret to protect it from prospective egg thieves. But Bert Large lets slip to the local baker, who seizes the opportunity to revive his ailing business by making it a new attraction. Bert is also unwittingly caught up in criminal activity, and his son Al is anxious to prove himself so he can propose to Pauline.
