Alexandra Burke has purportedly been lined up to perform Whitney Houston’s role from the movie The Bodyguard in the West End adaptation.

The 1992 hit movie features Houston as a pop singer, with Kevin Costner playing a former special service agent who is hired to be her bodyguard.

According the The Sun newspaper, theatre heads are keen to adapt the film into a play, and even keener on Burke taking one of the leading roles, despite her being hard at work on her second album.

A source tells the publication, "Alexandra is torn - the show would be an amazing gig and especially in London while the Olympics are on and it's in the spotlight. But she also has her second album to think about."
