Busy Philipps has reached out to her fans to help rename Cougar Town, after executive producer Bill Lawrence blamed the saucy title for the show's lack of viewers.

Lawrence admitted last year (10) that TV chiefs are considering changing Courteney Cox's programme's name after it moved direction as the plot progressed since its inception in 2009.

And the TV boss is still keen to relaunch the series with a name change, as he's convinced the title is putting off viewers and jeopardising its future.

In a series of posts on his Twitter page, he writes, "The ratings suck... and (the) show will go away if they don't get better next year. Research shows a large number of people who won't/haven't tried show out because of... The title.

"You ever tried to get someone to watch this show? 'I don't want to watch show about old ladies banging young guys.' We are talking about this because we are counting on you guys to stick (with) us, and maybe entice some new folks (show not about Cougars)."

Replying to Lawrence's 'Tweets' on the site, Philipps, who has starred in the show since it started, states, "Honestly, I think if you change it, it should be totally different. Not even reminiscent of Cougartown... Go for it! Seriously."

And the actress has called on her Twitter followers to help her boss think of a new name: "Ok. Guys. New title suggestions for CougarTown? I think (Lawrence) is really seriously gonna do it this time."
