Danny Glover is shocked by the extent of the devastation caused by the Haiti earthquake, comparing the destruction to the aftermath of World War Two.

Haiti was rocked by a massive earthquake in January (10), leaving hundreds of thousands dead and an estimated one million people homeless.

Glover travelled to the Caribbean country last week (begs22Mar10) to witness the disaster zone for himself, and he was stunned by what he saw, likening it to the devastation caused by the bombings of the Second World War.

He tells Reuters, "We have to understand the magnitude of this, really the magnitude of this. This is... the pictures I remember watching, of looking at the remnants, the aftermath of World War Two."

But the 63 year old is hopeful people and governments around the world will continue to send funds and other aid to Haiti to help rebuild the country.

He says, "I think the world is still paying attention."

During his trip, Glover also met with fellow actor Sean Penn, who has been making mercy missions to Haiti to take part in relief efforts.
