Danny Glover has brushed off criticism of his commencement speech at Utah State University, after he was booed by the crowd for failing to salute the U.S. flag during the ceremony.
The Lethal Weapon star, who was keynote speaker at the event on Saturday (08May10), was chided when he failed to put his hand over his heart during a presentation of the U.S. flag as the national anthem was played - a move that infuriated some graduates.
One spectator reportedly called out: "Put your hand above your heart, Glover!"
But the actor insists he has no regrets about his behaviour because he doesn't completely agree with the lyrics of The Star-Spangled Banner.
He tells The Salt Lake Tribune, "I was listening to the national anthem and paying attention. I probably wasn't the only one in there who didn't put a hand over their heart.
"People have problems sometimes with what I believe and who I talk to. I try to respect people, honour them."
