Holly Robinson Peete

Holly Robinson Peete

Holly Robinson Peete is looking to educate children about the struggles of living with autism with the release of a new picture book.

The TV star, whose 12-year-old son RJ was diagnosed with the condition at the age of three, was inspired to embark on the project after hearing how the boy was being bullied at school because other kids had no idea about the developmental disorder.

So she recruited RJ's twin sister Ryan to help reach out to youngsters in My Brother Charlie.

Ryan tells People magazine, "I want people to know what autism is so they don't get a whole weird idea. Kids with autism are exceptional human beings."

Peete's husband, former American footballer Rodney Peete, is also sharing his story with others in his own memoir, Not My Boy!, detailing his struggle to accept his son's diagnosis and how he overcame his denial.

Both books are set to hit stores in April (10).
