James Franco's father passes away

James Franco is in mourning following the death of his father.

The recent passing of Douglas Eugene Franco was confirmed by the actor's mother on Twitter.

Betsy wrote on Monday: "It is true that my sweet, generous husband passed away. He have so much to his three sons and me, and to many other people, too."

The cause of death is not yet known.

Doug, who died last week, was father to James, 33, and his two brothers, actor Dave, 26 and artist Tom, 31.
