Jane Fonda pays tribute to Shriver

Veteran actress Jane Fonda has paid tribute to Sargent Shriver, branding the late politician "a great, generous" man.

Shriver who died on Tuesday founded the US Peace Corps in the early 1960s before becoming a leading American philanthropist and beloved politician.

Fonda was a big fan of the one-time US vice presidential candidate and has praised the star and his late wife Eunice for their contributions to society, in particular founding the Special Olympic Games in 1968.

She wrote on her blog: "He was a great, generous, full-of-life man. I knew him when he was the U.S. Ambassador to France and I was living there and then, later, during some of the Special Olympic Games that his wife, Eunice organised. What a family!

"I am sad at this loss. Although he was ill with Alzheimer's for quite some time but one is never prepared when death comes. I am sad."
