Jane Fonda takes the male hormone, testosterone in a bid to boost her sex drive.

The actress, 73, has written a new book which offers the eldery tips in the bedroom and now the Barbarella star admits she uses some artificial help to increase her libido.

She tells The Sunday Telegraph: "Here's something I haven't said publicly yet: I discovered testosterone about three years ago, which makes a huge difference if you want to remain sexual and your libido has dropped. Use testosterone. It comes in a gel, a pill or in a patch."

But Fonda admits the side effects have caused her to stop taking the hormone: "I had to stop because it was giving me acne. It's one thing to have plastic surgery, but it is quite another to have adolescence acne. That is going to far."

Testosterone replacement has been widely met with criticism in America, with campaigners claiming drugs companies are cashing in on a problem which may have psychological causes rather than medical.
