Linda Gray's role as alcoholic, Sue Ellen, in Dallas has propmded many suffering alcoholics to find help.
The character, who drank due to her husbands infidelity, among other reasons, lead to many alcoholics deciding not to follow the same path.
Gray is proud of her performances in Dallas and believes the plot made it more socially acceptable to discuss drink addictions openly.
The actress told Britain's Weekend magazine: "Nowadays, if you have a problem with alcohol, its easier to get help, but then it was like you had leprosy and people would say to me, 'Because of Sue Ellen, I went to Alcoholics Anonymous.'
"It felt good that we were helping in some way."
