Movie star Owen Wilson stunned the owner of a smoke shop in Venice, California last week (17Jan08) when he allegedly walked in and purchased a huge bong and a 'monkey' pipe.

The Wedding Crashers star's drug use was linked to his apparent suicide attempt last summer (Aug07) - and so his low-key shopping trip to the Green House Smoke Shop has startled many.

U.S. magazine Life & Style reports Wilson was "friendly" but desperate not to be recognised as he spent $300 (#150) on "one of the biggest bongs".

An insider tells the publication, "He was worried that someone might have seen him coming out. He hid behind a FedEx truck for 30 seconds before darting to his car".
