Rob Lowe has donated his handprint to a charity auction to benefit needy families in Haiti.

The West Wing star teamed up with international housing organisation Habitat for Humanity and inked his fingers with Valspar Paint to create a colourful image, which will be auctioned off to raise relief funds for the country.

Proceeds from the event will help Habitat build homes for those left devastated by the 2010 earthquake.

He says, "I am deeply honoured to partner with Valspar Paint and Habitat for Humanity for this important initiative that will help Haitian families rebuild their lives.

"Having access to adequate shelter is a basic human right that everyone deserves. Valspar and Habitat are bringing low-income families the help they so desperately need."

A number of other celebrities, including Ethan Hawke, Twilight star Ashley Greene, Naomi Watts and singer Kid Rock, are also literally lending a hand to the cause.

The paint company has also pledged to add $1,000 (GBP625) to the fundraising efforts for each set of celebrity handprints that go under the hammer in the auctions, which began on Monday (22Aug11).
