Rocker Rod Stewart was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire at Buckingham Palace in London on Thursday (12Jul07). The Maggie May singer was awarded a CBE by Prince Charles for services to music.Stewart, who has spent five decades making hits, reveals the British royal talked to him about his distinctive singing voice and soccer star David Beckham's headline-making move to America.The rocker admits it was a very proud day: "It's a marvellous occasion. We're the only country in the world that recognises the common man." In a career spanning five decades Stewart has released 62 singles which includes six number one hits and twenty four that entered the top ten.In recent years Stewart has turned to singing 1930s and 1940s pop songs releasing a string of highly successful cover albums. As well as his music the singer's personal life has also attracted media attention as he had relationships with a string og high profile women including: model Dee Harrington, Britt Ekland, and Rachel Hunter, who was his second wife.

Steward recently married model Penny Lancaster and she has given birth to Alastair his seventh child.
