Shane Warne has vowed to make the relationship with Elizabeth Hurley work despite the vast distance involved, because the romance is so "special".

The cricketer proposed to the British model/actress in September (11), and they have decided to spend more time getting to know their respective families before they tie the knot.

Warne has three children who live Down Under and Hurley's son Damian goes to boarding school in Britain while she works in New York filming TV show Gossip Girl.

The sportsman admits they face a challenge organising their schedules, but he is determined to make the relationship last.

He tells reporters at a press conference in Sydney, "For me, in my life at the moment, I'm in a really good place. My number one priority is my children and that's the most important thing - and my new family too, Elizabeth and her son Damian, and vice-versa. I'm in a great space personally... and probably the happiest I've ever been... For the first time in my life, I'm really comfortable where I'm at.

"There will be a fair bit of travelling involved but when you've got something that is as special as what Elizabeth and I have, it's worth a bit of a challenging schedule."

Warne also reveals he doesn't think the couple will sign a pre-nuptial agreement before the big day, adding, "I don't think we'll worry about that stuff."

Hurley divorced husband Arun Nayar in June (11), while Warne separated from his wife Simone last year (10).
